A Druid's Blessing (old version)

If the party goes to the Verdant coast or Wizard's Delta, they learn that the woods have been ablaze from deeper within. They meet a druid casting plant growth, in an attempt to undo the fire's damage.

The good druid tells the party of a madman that has been razing the forest, the druid has been using Plant Growth to counteract him. Getting to the wildfire druid requires several hours of travel. If they leave in the morning, the sun would be going down as they approach. As they pass inside the forest, they find an old, forgotten shrine to Lyssa. Kneeling or interacting with the shrine in any way will summon an avatar of Lyssa, who offers them protection from the flames. For a combined total of 50sp, she blesses the party with Fire Resistance, in the form of a visible water barrier surrounding them.

This gives them immunity to smoke (not mechanical) and fire resistance.

The madman is... let's call him an... altered threat Fire elemental myrmidon
