The Black Knight is a 15th level Paladin. He suffers from madness, unless someone casts a remove curse spell on him. While cured, he is an Oath of Redemption paladin. While mad, he is an Oathbreaker.
Under the armor, he is a skeleton, though he registers as a holy creature to divine sense.
Asking him about his background:
"M... My Name.... yes, My name is Ossa....
I... I remember, I was a great warrior. I served the gods, laying low those who would oppose them.
Then came the fateful mission... The death of the accursed Desert Lich, Palawa Joko. We... I failed. He slew my brothers, and
killed me as well, but he decided to make an example of me. He wouldn't leave my remains to rest, my spirit to go free, no.
He animated my body, and bound my spirit to the bones. I lived, though my body was dead. I watched, day by day, as my body
decayed from fresh corpse, to zombie, and now but bones.
Even now, he asserts control of my bones, leading me to that madness. I don't know what cure there is for it, but I'm sure there's one out there.
A successful Atonement Ceremony or any Divine Intervention to Dwayna or Grenth will cure him permanently, while keeping him alive. A Funeral Rites Ceremony will set his soul free and his bones to rest.
A Religion check can diagnose these solutions. DC 10 says a Ceremony may help. DC 15 gives the details.
If he is cured in either of these ways, Everyone in the party is blessed by the gods, and gains a level.
